Category: Music & Theatre Date: Saturday, 06 July 2013 A semi-staged performance of Engelbert Humperdinck's opera version of Hansel and Gretel is coming to the St James Concert & Assembly Hall on July 6th 2013. Performed by the Guernsey Symphony Orchestra, the production features singers from across the UK, including talented soloists Laura Ruhi-Vidal, Bethan Langford, Emma Rothman, Casey-Joe Rumens, Georgia Bishop and Louise Fuller. Originally performed in 1893, Hansel and Gretel has become the most famous work in Humperdinck's canon, combining Wagnerian techniques with elements of the style of traditional German folk music. It is recognised as a seminal piece of Germany's cultural history and brings the Grimm brothers' iconic fairy tale vividly to life. This event could appeal to luxury Guernsey hotel guests who are enjoying one of The Duke of Richmond Hotel's many appealing packages this summer. Among them is the Walk Guernsey deal, which includes two return tickets to the island of Herm, a book about popular Guernsey walking routes and use of a heated outdoor swimming pool, among other perks.
